The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) since 1946 and was most recently reaccredited in 2018.

As a member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, The Cooper Union voluntarily participates in the accreditation process. The MSCHE mission states that it, "assures students and the public of the educational quality of higher education. The Commission’s accreditation process ensures institutional accountability, self-appraisal, improvement, and innovation through peer review and the rigorous application of standards within the context of institutional mission."
